Just got word that our music video was awarded the jury prize for the SFIAAFF/KSW/Locus Arts DIY video contest. What does that mean? Since Toyota sponsored it, I think we will get to choose between a new 2010 Toyota automobile or a Toyota Matrix t-shirt, only if we decide to take the car, we have to chance whether it's pre- or post-recall. Oh, and the video will be screened at the festival forum event which will be going on from noon-9pm next Saturday, 13 March 2010, at the Japantown Peace Plaza. Lots of live music, storytelling and other film stuff shown on the big screen outdoors. I'm not sure what time we'll be up, but unfortunately while it will certainly be bigger in actual size, playing the 720 HD version below at full screen might result in better image quality and fill your field of view more. But come out for this free event or stop by between movies- you may get to point and laugh when we speed west on Geary Street in our new Camry.
We were a little short of the popular vote (a mere 200,000 or so views behind either of the top two), but we really appreciate everyone who clicked it over and over again so big thanks to everyone who supported and watched the crappy, lo-res version on the CAAM site. So as a meager token of our gratitude (which everyone else will also be able to enjoy without all the effort you put in), here's a much better-looking version.
Compare the story board assembly below (also available in 720, btw) and see how we go from concept to finished product (glossing over one or two small steps in between). Sync video for best results- start the upper video and just before it gets to 0:02, press play on the lower one (a quick one-mississippi or probably just enough time to move your cursor down) and it should be close to matched up; turn off sound for the lower video and watch how things changed during the process.
Also, a few folks who are not listed in the video credits but also helped make it possible: Amy Walsh (drawing of the band), Mike Lee (FCP instruction and output assistance) and Britta Johnson (animation advice and putting up with overly-worried technical questions).
